How to find the right lawyer yourself

Looking to find legal help on your own? Here are some important tips:

1. Choosing a lawyer
Research is the first step to finding the right lawyer for your needs. It is a tedious process, but as with any other services, in order to get the best service and price you should, ideally have a range of offers to choose from. Asking your business associates and friends for recommendations and reviews, as well as using your country's bar associations will help you compile a list of lawyers.

2. Getting the best service
After compiling a list of potential lawyers you should contact each one and see who could offer a free initial consultation. Not all lawyers may offer this, but it's a good step forward to find out more about the lawyer and their practice. Prepare a list of questions to ask the lawyers, including areas of legal expertise, potential costs of the services, communication and their legal team.

Areas of legal expertise

As areas of practice in the legal field vary, it is crucial that your lawyer is an expert in the area you require help with.

Cost of services

It's important to understand how much a lawyer's consultation may cost you, as it can become extremely expensive, very quickly. Lawyers don't usually offer a flat fee for their services, so make sure you find out what additional costs there may be.

Communication

As most lawyers handle more than one case at once, you have to be sure that you can get a response within a reasonable time. Find out the best way to contact your lawyer, can you call them any time? Should you e-mail them?

Their team

Some lawyers work in a team and let others do some of the work. You need to understand who exactly will be handling your case, as this can result in varying costs and quality of services provided.

WHAT IS KYC AND WHY IS IT REQUIRED?

In simple words, KYC (Know Your Client) is a process used to demonstrate that individuals are, who they say they are and live where they say they live - verify their identity. KYC is not always required to answer a customer's enquiry, however in certain cases local law obliges lawyers to perform KYC procedure before providing legal assistance/help/service.

1. When asking a question, please make sure you describe the legal issue in detail and, if possible, in a correct sequence of events
2. Try to use simple language and be as clear as possible
3. Be polite and remember: the better you describe your legal issue, the better the answer you get
